Parisian interior designer and gallery owner Jessica Barouch defines herself as a "collector." Personally, I see her as a conductor who elegantly and subtly manipulates volumes, objects, textures, and colors to create spaces with such harmonious aesthetics that we instinctively feel at home there. She opened the doors to her Parisian apartment for us, a sunny and warm welcome, reflecting her personality.
In your own words, how would you describe your job?
Collector! I decided to open the gallery to satisfy this passion that has driven me since I was little.
How is your day organized?
I get up very early, around 6am. I take a few minutes to practice yoga and then I prepare a good breakfast for my children that I like to share with them. It's my favorite time of day. Once the children are dropped off at school, I have a series of appointments between the gallery and the construction sites for
After Bach , the interior design firm that I founded with Francesco Balzano.
What does your workspace look like?
My office is at the gallery. A place for exchange and sharing where I welcome clients and showcase my current favorites. I work at a large meeting table where I often leave my samples lying around. I love being surrounded by all this material to work with; it stimulates my creativity every day.
Was there a key moment in your career?
The holiday home project in Normandy that I created with my husband Julien, for the founder of a French fashion brand. She gave me carte blanche, a challenge for me that offered me a creative freedom I hadn't expressed so much before.
What inspires you? Or who?
My loved ones, my mother a lot... but also the meetings with the young artists and artisans that I represent at the gallery. I need to be surrounded by material, it's what inspires me the most. I like to feel an emotion, brought on by contact with an element.
Can you share with us a decorating tip that you never deviate from?
Follow your intuition. I always let myself be guided by my emotions. It always works when it's a crush. I mainly work with what I call "non-colors": earthy and natural ambiances but especially blends of materials and textures.
What do you like best about your apartment?
I like that change is always possible and that nothing is set in stone. I add new pieces according to my desires and my favorites.
What have you been listening to lately?
How do you end your day?
When I get home, I like to take about twenty minutes to do a facial with Biologique Recherche products. A brand I've been loyal to for several years.
Your latest achievement?
Your favorite SESSEI pieces?
All cotton poplins! I love
Kaia and
Esther . I like to wear them as overshirts, around the waist, or tucked into high-waisted pants for a more elegant look.
I recently fell for the Julianne silk model. I loved its turned-up collar which gives character to this shirt.
