A GETAWAY WITH: Michèle Ouellet Benson
Michèle became a model at the age of 15 and co-founded Lorénza Rose with her mother in 2008, a beautiful mother-daughter entrepreneurial adventure.
After traveling to over 30 countries for photo shoots, she now lives in Los Angeles. She is also the author of the Substack Amuse Bouche newsletter, where she shares her thoughts on restaurants, travel, hotels, fashion, and beauty. A true expert in the art of dining and living, Michèle infuses each of her projects with refined elegance and genuine warmth.
It was only natural that I wanted to entrust her with the creation of our guide, "A Weekend in the Hamptons." It's a place she knows intimately and where she often loves to escape. Here, she shares her favorite spots, her secret places, and her way of effortlessly adding style to this idyllic getaway on the East Coast.
Can you tell us about your background and the story behind Lorénza Rosé, the brand you co-founded with your mother?
I grew up in Napa Valley, in a family of restaurateurs and winemakers. Eating, cooking, and gathering around a table have always been essential to us! I started modeling around the age of 15, which led me to travel extensively for photo shoots—to New York, Paris, Milan. It was while spending time in Paris that I discovered rosé, a true love at first sight, which became one of the inspirations for our brand, Lorénza. My mother and I wanted to create a creative project together that would allow us to stay connected while keeping me grounded at home as I pursued my modeling career. Eighteen years later, we are still producing Mediterranean-inspired wines from old vines in Northern California.
How would you describe your personal style and aesthetic?
I'm a Gemini, and that's particularly reflected in my style. One day I might wear a very feminine dress, and the next, a rather sporty, tomboyish look. I love classic and elegant pieces worn with a bolder twist.
What makes the Hamptons so special to you? What keeps you coming back?
My husband grew up there, so we love visiting our friends and family. It's an idyllic and beautiful place, both in summer and in the off-season.
What is the first thing you like to do when you arrive for a weekend in the Hamptons?
Open a bottle of rosé (Lorenza, of course) and head straight to the beach for a dip in the water! There's nothing better to erase the memory of the drive from New York. Afterwards, I love going to farmers' markets and stocking up on fresh produce—tomatoes, peaches, corn—to prepare simple and delicious meals.

Where do you like to go for a sunny lunch or a relaxed brunch — and what SESSEI look would you wear?
I love having breakfast and croissants at Carissa's in Amagansett. The place is super chic, and they make the best Arnold Palmer pastries! I'd wear a striped outfit from SESSEI, which is both comfortable and stylish. For lunch, Duryea's by the water is also fabulous. You absolutely must try their lobster Cobb salad and lobster rolls. When you're there, you just soak up the atmosphere!
Is there a secret place you adore — a quiet beach, a hidden cafe, or a little-known antique shop?
The beaches in Amagansett are so peaceful, it's wonderful. I also really like Deep Blue Vintage, located in a historic barn in Amagansett, and also in Montauk. They have amazing designer pieces and lots of really cool vintage Formula 1 jackets.
For a dinner with friends or a romantic date, where do you like to go — and which SESSEI piece makes you feel your best?
For a romantic dinner, I love sitting at the bar at Il Buco al Mare for a plate of pasta and a cozy Negroni. I'm pregnant right now, so my wardrobe has changed a bit! I like wearing the Leia black silk shirt , unbuttoned, with boyfriend jeans. It's sexy and cool.
What was the first thing that attracted you when you discovered the SESSEI brand?
The first piece I fell in love with was the Kaia white shirt with my initials embroidered on it. It truly is the perfect white shirt, exceptionally high quality, with incredible attention to detail. Since then, I've become addicted to all their creations!
Which SESSEI pieces have become staples in your summer wardrobe, and how do you like to wear them in the Hamptons?
A suitcase full of SESSEI is all you need for a weekend in the Hamptons. Their pieces are elegant, superbly made, and never over the top. The striped Kaia and Esther shirts have become wardrobe staples, summer and winter. I size up for the relaxed fit I love. I always feel comfortable and chic in Lou trousers and a Second Skin T-shirt . The Leandra skirt is perfect for summer evenings with a flowy tank top. And I love wearing my red Kaia shirt as a light jacket for a beach barbecue with jeans!
